We are visiting every St. Louis microbrewery to help highlight the variety, quality and fine spaces we have to enjoy a fresh beer in our fair city.
We stopped at Alpha Brewing Company. at 4310 Fyler Avenue in the Tower Grove South Neighborhood.
This place is visible from the burgeoning Morgan Ford Road that is seeing another round of development and infill in one of the most popular St. Louis neighborhoods.
Alpha is perfectly located just west of McDonald Park and directly across from some of the beautiful little brick cottages that dot TGS and St. Louis from north to south.
Alpha started Downtown in 2013. There was a large door that opened up on the backside of an alley-like street, it was so big city and cool. Then in 2018, they expanded and relocated to the current location in Tower Grove South.
Per KSDK news, Alpha will be branching out with a new distillery that will be part of an expansion of the Delmar Makers District, including Steve’s Hot Dogs, Fountain on Locust and a Third Degree Glass Factory expansion.
The building on Fyler used to be owned by Keller Manufacturing and Midwest Petroleum. There is little to no info on the city website about the age of the buildings.
I’d guess post WWII, but I’ll leave that to the learned.
I love reusing nondescript mid-century buildings and making them cool vs. sending them to the landfill and building new.
Ride your bike? No problem, there is a rack to lock up, surrounded by plantings that were buzzing with European honey bees.
Alpha has a beautiful outdoor patio and a comfortable indoor space with booths, tables, couches and bar seating. The rafters are a nice touch.
There is a mural on the back wall, a small stock of swag and blankets for the patio when it’s a bit chilly.
Plantain Girl used to be set up at Alpha serving tostones and other Puerto Rican treats.
Now there is food served by Alpha. The fried pickles and chicken wings are delicious. I’m currently obsessed with pickling veggies, and on our visit, they were too.
Like many other breweries in St. Louis, they have board games, trivia nights and meat bingo where you can win cuts from Kendrick’s Meat Market, a suburban favorite of many in the region.
The beer is truly unique with lots of sours and creative flavors.
We enjoyed an APA, stout and cocktail for the lady.
The outdoor space is awesome, complete with a brewery cat named Tassie.
We love cats but have a child who is allergic, so we glom onto these moments. And this sweetie wanted to hang out.
There is varied seating, from community style to more private two-top picnic tables, to tall four seat tables and the classic picnic tables. Lots of handsome landscaping surrounds the space to give it that healthy, comfortable vibe.
We had a perfect time and enjoyed everything top to bottom.
The cat’s necklace said Tassie on one side and “If found, return me to Alpha Brewing”. I guess I need one of those too as I’ll be back whether lost or found.
On to the next one…
